Iron Curtain Trail

Sustainable mobility along the newest EuroVelo route, the Iron Curtain Trail

The objective of the Iron Curtain Trail project is to promote the improvement of cycling accessibility in the South East European region. In order to achieve this, the 15 South East European partner organizations from Greece to Slovakia intend to interconnect the cycling networks of the Iron Curtain Trail along the border regions, link the means of public transport, as well as promote cycling as a way of sustainable transport.

The main role of the West Pannon Nonprofit Ltd. in the project as the lead partner is to provide full coordination of the project regarding professional implementation, as well as financial, project management-related and communicational tasks.

Furthermore, as for the Western Hungarian sections, our additional duty includes the following tasks:

  • examining regional good examples, as well as compiling a good practice guide with the cooperation of the partner regions,
  • writing a regional action plan and feasibility studies in order to improve the condition of bicycle routes and connect the public transport and tourism developments
  • developing complex sustainable transport and touristic offers
  • participating in the establishment of a bike-friendly service network, as well as in its promotional activities
  • disseminating project results
